Product Review: Luxy Hair Extensions and Aveda Madder Root Shampoo & Conditioner

I decided to combine two product reviews into one post.  Because, let's face it, I've been a slacker on writing lately.  So I apologize in advance for the length of this post.  Here we go....

Luxy Hair Extensions

I decided a couple of months ago that I wanted to purchase some extensions so that when I colored my hair for fall, I would have some lengthy tresses to accompany my new look.  I did a lot of searching for a good company with positive reviews, good pricing, and heavy grammage.  I came across the Luxy Hair website and read all of their FAQ's, the About Us, and watched their youtube videos.  Here's some reasons why I chose Luxy:
1)  Their story.  The women who started the company had personal experience with how hard it can be to find good quality hair extensions at a reasonable price.  They chose to remedy the problem by starting their own company.
2)  Grammage:  They recently introduced the heaviest extensions I found.  220 grams is a lot of hair.  The problem that I've had with extensions is that they look really fake on me because they are so much thinner than my real hair.
3) YouTube:  The sisters have a YouTube video for everything.  They have one for how to choose your color, upkeep, and styling.  I was really impressed with all the information they provide.  And for someone who needs everything to be visual, this is really helpful.

I purchased my extensions on a Monday and received them by Thursday (I payed a little extra for shipping).  The wefts of hair were exactly what I expected, actually better!  They are really thick and I love them.  I have received a lot of compliments when I wear them.

Here are some Helpful Tips for buying extensions:
1) Do your research
2) If you plan on coloring them- a) buy human hair, b) buy a color a shade or two lighter so that your hairstylist can match your color, c) color will strip some extra moisture out of the extensions
3) If you plan on curling them, wash them a few times
4) After getting them curl ready, you should only wash them every 10-12 wears

Aveda Madder Root Shampoo and Conditioner

Most hairstylists can tell you that red, no matter the tone, is the hardest color to keep in your hair.  I recently colored my hair to 4NVR, dark brown with violet red.  I absolutely love the color because it's unique and fun.  I didn't love that just a couple of weeks after getting it colored, I was still seeing red in my water while I washed my hair.  Since I work at an Aveda salon, I talked to my stylist and she recommended Madder Root.

When I poured the shampoo in my hand, I was tickled by the color, red.  The conditioner is also red, so I was really expecting some results.  Also, I regularly recommend Aveda products because I great great results.

When I finished my shower, I put in my Color Conserve and Smooth Infusion gels and then went to work blow drying.  The finished look was amazing.  Prior to using Madder Root, the color on the top of my head had faded, but the Madder Root replenished the color and it's darker and matched the rest of my hair a lot better.  The shine and healthy look that comes from Aveda's Full Spectrum hair color line was perfect.  I didn't even need to use my Brilliant gloss to add any more shine.

So if you're a red head, or thinking of becoming one, I highly recommend Madder Root.
