Since Valentine’s Day is just two weeks away I decided to
go ahead and remind the men that now is the time to order flowers!
So if you're not sure what to get that lovely lady in your life it actually may be a good idea to follow the suggestion of the duck quote above. But I hope that you haven't forgotten that it is that time of year to announce to the world that you love someone, even just platonicly.
Now, of course, it is always good to know her likes and dislikes, but really it is the thought that counts. Don't be that guy who buys his girlfriend a deep frier so she can fry up wings for him (true story, it happened to one of my friends). Be the guy who spends an hour looking for just the right card to the love of his life. (By the way, you can pick out a nice card and then drop it off at the florist for them to include with the bouquet you're sending).
Here are some Valentine Gifting Etiquette Tips:
1) Be thoughtful in the gift.
2) Find out her preference for flowers, chocolates, etc.
3) Order anything that needs delivery before February 10th.
4) Get a card that accurately describes how you feel. Don't get a card about how you love her if you've only been dating for a month and haven't used the "L" word yet.
5) Don't sign your card "Secret Admirer" unless you're still in high school.
If you're going to take advantage of the holiday to make a move on a girl you've had your eye on, here's a couple of ideas:
Get a gift for her and her friends, but make hers the one that you obviously spent more money on.
Send flowers to her office with a nice card that reveals your feelings.
I will also say that it is okay for guys to send something, or do something, nice to their girl friends who are not in a relationship. Letting them know that you value their friendship is always a kind gesture and they will appreciate it.

Day! sparklyinthecity@gmail.com
