With summer just around the corner, it's the perfect time to look into updating your own look, whether you want something more natural or maybe a little funky. Here are some photos of the hottest style for 2013:
Dip Dye
Bronde
Bright Colors
I recently looked at a photo someone had taken of me and thought "Wow, my hair looks boring." For about 4 years I've been doing all over color #4 for my long locks. That means that for 4 years I've been a straight up brunette. No highlights, no blonde phase, nothing. I had a bad experience a while back and my hair went through about a summer of bad color.
I started out wanting highlights, but the girl who did them made them far too big and blonde for my taste. I was wanting something neutral and low key.
I decided that I would get an all over color and start over. The color was too dark and for a weekend I looked like I had on a Cher wig.
After that, I got the color washed out and asked for brown with red undertones. The stylist misunderstood when I told her I wanted it darker. I was thinking darker brown and she definitely went darker red. It was an awful, embarrassing, and expensive summer.
So when I had the opportunity, I went back to brown and stayed there.
Recently, I felt like I needed to change up my look. I asked some friends for their opinions about my style and whether or not I should add bangs. My mom (I love how bold and honest she was concerning my question) said "Well since you always end up hating your bangs and growing them out, I'm gonna say 'no'." I still wanted something different. I sat and though and began to look into a color change. I decided on the Ombre (French "two-toned') look.
I nervously explained to the Aveda Institute student, who would be applying the color, that I didn't want to go blonde, but I definitely wanted something noticeable. We looked at some photos and she began to work. When she finally rinsed my hair and finished drying it, I was more than pleased. It was just the change I needed.
A few things I've learned since that bad time in 2009....
1. Always be specific about your desired results.
2. Bring a photo.
3. If the look isn't what you wanted, speak up!
4. Check your office dress code before doing a bright color.
5. If you decide you don't like it, it can be dyed again.
