Dear Sparkly,
I see characters on movies and tv who make facial masks out of household ingredients, but even when I've looked up recipes, none of them specify which ingredients to use for what kind of skin. I have very dry skin, what works best for me?

There are many ways to figure out the best facial recipes, but remember, the best way to get a good mask is to make a visit to a licensed esthetician (shamelessly plugging for myself here) and have them preform a hydrating treatment.
One of the basic ingredients you can use in a facial mask for dry skin would be avocado. What many don't know is that avocados are a natural moisturizer, even if they are eaten, instead of placed on your skin. They have natural fats and phytonutrients that are extremely beneficial to your skin's health. For very dry skin add some jojoba oil into the mix, as well.
For acneic skin try purred strawberries mixed with non-fat yogurt. Strawberries actually contain salicylic acid, which aids in exfoliating pores and ridding your face of bacteria. Strawberries reduce facial redness and swelling and enable the skin to absorb more moisture. My recommendation would be to apply a cucumber mask after a strawberry mask to help neutralize the pH levels in your skin.
There are plenty of recipes for facial masks, and making them yourself helps make sure that you're not putting any harmful fillers and artificial products on your skin.

I'm mildly allergic to avocados, I still eat them sometimes in small quantities, but I'm hesitant to smear them all over my face. Are there any other ingredients I could use that are good for hydration?
ReplyDeleteCoconut Oil or Almond Oil are both wonderful, all natural moisturizers.
