For the New Year I thought I'd share some Facebook pet peeves and how you can avoid them in 2014....
1) Status. The facebook status has become a place to air out your feelings is disgust, emotional highs, emotional lows, and prove to everyone on your friends list at how AMAZING your life is right now! I'll be honest, I have gotten really tired of most people on facebook. I have gone through an unsubscribed to most of the people on my current friends list because I really just don't care about their day to day, or hour to hour, life.
2) Relationships. Some people handle their relationships very well, while others don't. But the last thing I really care about is reading all about it on facebook. Am I happy for my recently engaged friends? Yes. Do I want to read about how they "woke up engaged and are so happy"? No. The quickest way you can get the "unsubcribe" button from me is posting over and over and over and over about your new relationship status, photos, photo albums, and forwarding instagram photos to your facebook.
3) Event Invites. Do you have those friends that invite you to everything? I do. I have two, actually. These two, while I love them dearly, invite me to EVERYTHING. Whether I know the person who is hosting the party or not. One of them sends me 5-6 invites, to different things, all at the same time. Makes me crazy. Also, I've seen events get up to 1300+ on the invite list. Here's a thought- ask the host/hostess before inviting all of your friends. And if only a certain number of people usually show up to things, then stop inviting the other 500.
Another peeve for Event Invites is all those people sitting on the "maybe" list. I have actually stopped counting the maybes at all and delete them from the event all together.
The last of this section...If you aren't able to come to the event, send a personal message to the one who invited you, explaining why. And only if the party is small. 500+ people don't really care about your work schedule or the fact that you're skiing, or soaking up sun in Miami.
4) Events. Okay, so you've decided to RSVP yes to an event. YAY! But then your notifications get bogged down because the hosts keep posting stuff on the event page. HOST- Either put everything in the description and tell people to read it, OR post the information a few days ahead of the event so everyone can see it. Please stop posting the same information over and over and over.
Now, this next thing I have to say will more than likely cause some controversy with my peers, and I am going to preface this paragraph by saying this "It's my blog and you can leave me a comment." There is no reason that every single event has to be a fundraiser. Fundraising is great. But you can certainly make me, and all your friends, a little crazy when you expect them to dish out money all the time for the same charity. I am glad that there are people out there who serve the community. But guilting everyone into giving money to your favorite ministry isn't really very nice. Leave a bucket at the door with a "Donation" sign.
*If you recognize yourself in any of these scenarios, then I may have used you as an example. I do not mean to offend anyone, however, the facebook antics are not very polite and this is my humorous way of sharing them.*
**If someone you love is guilty of any of these peeves, please let them know, especially if it bothers you. Facebook shouldn't end your friendship.** ;)
*WARNING* Tough Love Ahead
