Am I a good friend?
If you aren't asking yourself this question once in a while then you maybe aren't doing the right kind of personal inventory. Friendship is the best way to test your skills at other relationships. Here's some simple ways to figure out if you are indeed a good friend. You can either ask yourself these questions about others in general, or about a specific friend. This is also a good way to show someone that they have some areas where they can improve. And if you're dating someone who has more than 3 no's then you might reconsider being with them.
1. Do you reach out to others regularly?
2. Are you inclusive of others?
3. Can you name at least 3 people who would bring you soup if you were sick?
4. If you were in charge of birthday plans, would you know what to do for your friends?
5. Are you regularly invited to parties?
6. Do you use others' names when talking to them in person?
7. Do you listen more than you talk?
8. Are you able to keep your commitments?
9. Do people consider you responsible?
10. Are you forgiving?
11. Do you think about others' needs over your own?
12. Do people talk to you when they have a problem?
13. Are you willing to help others when they are in need, financially or otherwise?
14. Do you give second chances?
15. Are you encouraging, not condescending?
If you answered mostly "Yes", then you are a good friend! If you answered "No" to more than 3 of these then it might be time to ask for some accountability from those you trust.
